Today I have been debating what I wanted to talk about on this post. I am feeling very motivated and open to posting a lot more articles on this blog. Writing is one of my passions so it is something that I need to exercise and explore.
Yesterday I travelled across the city to put up posters for my business as a Reiki practitioner. I designed the poster and I was so proud. It is only fitting that today's post will be about the health benefits of reiki, which is one of the rare forms of therapy that affect both the mind and the soul simultaneously.
Origins of Reiki
To better understand Reiki, let's go back to it's origins. Reiki emerged in japan in the late 1800's, but energy healing itself has existed for much longer. It involves the transfer of universal energy, "Rei" meaning universal and "ki" meaning life energy, from the practitioners palms into the patient.
For some people, the concept of reiki seems a bit too spiritual, but there have been numerous scientific studies demonstrating that reiki is truly beneficial and effective. It is becoming so mainstream that over 60 hospitals have started offering Reiki to their patients as a form of complimentary therapy.
Reiki is growing in popularity, and many people who have tried alternative therapies such as reflexology and acupuncture, also gravitate towards reiki for deeper healing. Reiki is said to treat various conditions, whether the ailment is physical, mental, emotional or spiritual, it helps alleviate pain and lift all heaviness from the body.
What happens in a Reiki session?
Usually (or at least, in my sessions), the client is lying on his back on a massage table. We start off by burning sage around the body to clear all the negative, heavy energy in the aura. Afterwards, the practitioner starts to lay his or her hands on the body in specific positions, usually starting around the head and gradually going towards the feet.
Some clients choose to not be directly touched, the energy can still be transferred by directing the hands off the body in the same positions. Some practitioners, like myself, use a combination of aromatherapy and healing crystals placed directly on the body where the chakra points are located.
Chakras are wheels of energy that follow the spine and represent many different aspects of being human, including intuition, creativity and love. There are 7 main chakras on the body, and most practitioners who do reiki also work with the chakras during the session, to cleanse and balance the energetic system.
What does Reiki help treat?
Reiki is known to cause deep relaxation, helping the body to self-heal and return to a state of balance and homeostasis. Some of the known illnesses and problems that can be treated are:
1. Heart disease
2. Cancer
3. Anxiety and depression
4. Chronic pain and fatigue
5. Grief and emotional pain
6. Stress and overwhelm

There are many practitioners now in most cities of the world. If you happen to be in Moncton, New Brunswick, I treat women of all ages. I would love to meet you and work with you on whatever situation you may need help with. Visit the tab "Dea Reiki" to find out more, or email me directly at mandydegrace@hotmail.com
